Summer Reading Program at Omaha Public Library features Tails and Tales

This post was originally published on this site

All ages are encouraged to participate in the free annual Summer Reading Program (SRP) at Omaha Public Library (OPL)! This year’s theme is “Tails and Tales,” meaning there will be plenty of activities featuring fun animals and fantastic stories. SRP takes place June 1-July 31; learn more about it and register at your local branch,, or by calling 402-444-4800.

Although reading is its own reward, kids, teens, and adults can earn prizes by reading and/or listening to books for 10 hours. Audiobooks, eBooks, and Playaways all count for SRP hours, as well. Log the time you spend reading/listening to books online to be eligible for prizes. Participants who read or listen for 10 hours are eligible to receive prizes: A voucher for a book from the Friends of Omaha Public Library book sale; Omaha Storm Chasers ticket voucher for a game on August 11 or August 15; and a clear stadium bag, water bottle, backpack or pencil case. Participants who complete their reading goals will be entered into a raffle for additional prizes from The Rose Theater, Swimtastic, Pizza West, and other gift cards. This year, kids and teens will also receive a free book from OPL simply for signing up. Adults are also eligible for prizes and drawings.

Need books? Browse or your neighborhood library branch for reading materials in a variety of formats. In the spirit of the “Tails and Tales” theme, OPL staff created several book lists for all ages that feature titles about animals!

Join OPL online for many of the same activities and presentations that patrons enjoy and look forward to every summer, including Out & About storytimes, escape rooms, Wildlife Encounters, and more! SRP kicks off June 1 at 1 p.m. with a virtual storytelling event with Oba William King. Registration information and a full schedule of events is available at
