Omaha, NE – The Greater Omaha Chamber has unveiled its ambitious vision for the future: transforming the region into a model of economic vitality by 2027. Based on ardent research of where Greater Omaha ranks amongst its peers, the Chamber’s 2025-2027 economic development strategy seeks to address critical challenges, while amplifying Greater Omaha’s strengths in business growth, talent retention, and quality of life.

“Greater Omaha has long been celebrated for its affordability, cultural vibrancy, and strong public-private partnerships. However, to ensure sustained economic growth, we must tackle pressing challenges to compete – and ultimately surpass – our peer competitors,” said Heath Mello, President & CEO, Greater Omaha Chamber. “This strategy is a roadmap to make the Greater Omaha region more dynamic, equitable, and prosperous for all.”

A New Economic Development Equation: The Greater Omaha Chamber’s strategy introduces a people-centric economic development equation focused on three strategic priorities:

1. Strategic Business Growth The Greater Omaha Chamber aims to strengthen the regional economy by supporting existing businesses and attracting new industries. Key initiatives include:

  • Engaging local companies to remove barriers and facilitate growth.
  • Proactively recruiting businesses through marketing, outreach, and vertical development.
  • Promoting entrepreneurship, particularly among underrepresented groups.
  • Unlocking federal funding for workforce and site development.
  • Advocating for pro-business policies, such as competitive income taxes and incentives.

Outcome measures: Increased primary job creation, wage growth, and capital investment.

2. Brain Gain To address talent shortages, the Greater Omaha Chamber is launching initiatives to recruit and retain top talent:

  • Proactively targeting former residents and young professionals for recruitment.
  • Expanding inclusive leadership programs to foster talent retention.
  • Preparing for workforce shifts by collaborating with businesses on future workforce needs, micro-credentials, and skills development.

Outcome measures: Growth in human capital metrics, population increases, and improved perceptions of career opportunities.

3. Destination: Omaha The Greater Omaha Chamber is committed to enhancing Omaha’s appeal as a quality place to live and work:

  • Developing housing and childcare businesses while encouraging employer participation in these solutions.
  • Rebranding Greater Omaha to attract new residents and businesses.
  • Advocating for policies that improve transportation and overall quality of life.

Outcome measures: Expanded housing and childcare options, improved mobility, and a stronger regional brand.

A Vision for Transformation Through collaboration and targeted strategies, the Greater Omaha Chamber and its Economic Development Partnership are committed to positioning Greater Omaha as a thriving, innovative, and equitable community. By 2027, the region aims to climb higher in national competitiveness rankings, attract diverse talent, and solidify its reputation as a premier destination for businesses and residents alike.
