Medical interests:

I specialize in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, with a particular emphasis on perianal Crohn’s disease, obesity and cardiometabolic comorbidities in IBD, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence in gastroenterology. I also am committed to advancing equity in medicine through active involvement in women’s leadership and mentorship initiatives.

How I fell in love with medicine and my specialty:

Growing up in a remote village, I watched my father care for patients who could not afford medical treatment. He often treated them without charge, while my mother — though not a medical professional — cooked meals and provided a place for them to stay during their recovery. Witnessing their generosity and compassion shaped my earliest understanding of medicine and inspired me to become a physician.

During my training, I discovered gastroenterology, where the complexity of the digestive system and the resilience of patients living with chronic illness drew me in. I found particular purpose in caring for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, where I could combine clinical care, advanced imaging and innovative therapies to improve lives. The opportunity to merge compassion with cutting-edge science made gastroenterology, and especially IBD, are my calling.

Things people might not know about me:

  • I’ve met many of my mentors and collaborators through social media, which has become an unexpected classroom for me.
  • Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband and kids, exploring new places and learning chess from my son.

  • Frederick F. Paustian Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Center at Nebraska Medical Center
  • Procedure center at Village Pointe Health Center
